World of the Innocent by Nadine C. Keels is a quick New Adult short story.
““Are you ready to love this young man?”
Jhoi: she’s poetic. She’s guarded. And she couldn’t imagine having much to do with a guy like Marcas. Sure, Marcas is a brilliant fellow artist, admired by plenty of fans. But he’s so remarkably…strange.
Still, Marcas touches Jhoi’s soul. And through the counsel of a shrewd old neighbor, Jhoi will discover a link between intimate friendship and becoming a steward of an era.
A tale of love, enduring belief, and the meaning of innocence—based on a true story.“
This book is a super quick read with only 56 pages on my Nook. I was able to fly through it within one night while cozying it up in bed. If you’re in some sort of reading slump, this one would be perfect to get yourself back in the groove.
With that being said, this book only gives you the bare minimum of what the character’s background contains. We’re introduced to a cute story of a girl’s first real connection to a guy. But It was the ending that got to me!
Holy crap did I not see that sort of thing coming! Nadine did an AMAZING job in incorporating a real-life, out of nowhere, gut wrenching plot twist. I feel like it is something that was written with a lot of feeling because when can that sort of thing be predictable?? Or even build up to that??
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. There were a few time where the plot was a little slower, but since this is a shorter story, the ending hits you really quick! The characters were interesting and had a great connection that we were able to easily follow.
