I was kinda iffy on this book at first.

Of course, after the climatic ending in Crown of Midnight (Book 2), I was hooked. There were a few on-the-edge-of-my-seat moments throughout, but this book took on more of a calm route until after 3/4 of the way through. I felt like there was a new atmosphere in this new kingdom that she is now stuck in. With all of the obstacles that she faced before, most of her life now feels in less control. We see more of a vulnerable side to the assassin.

I was really hoping the new relationship was going to take a different route then it did by the end of the book (Which I will not be spoiling). And let me tell ya, the ending took me in for a loop. I only gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because a few parts felt long in this installment, but the ending was climatic, tragic, suspenseful, and exhilarating. It definitely left me wanting more.

But it took A LOT of pages in order to get to that point. Like I said, most of the book felt a little flat for me. But the writing is very well written and still holds that Sarah J. Maas-feel to it.

And I gotta say, I love the short hair!
